FAQs
What Will My Treatment With Bloomfield Endodontics Be Like?
Dr. Ryan believes communication before, during, and after treatment is a key component to an excellent experience with our office. Dr. Ryan will spend time discussing your digital x-ray images and individual endodontic needs, answering any questions that arise. During treatment, Dr. Ryan will provide updates so you are well-informed throughout the procedure. After treatment, Dr. Ryan will discuss post-operative care and what to expect.
While treatment times may vary from patient to patient, Dr. Ryan is aware that no one likes to be in the dental chair any longer than necessary. Dr. Ryan utilizes state-of-the-art technology that has lessened traditional treatment times and decreased the number of appointments necessary to complete endodontic procedures. Our goal is to preserve your natural tooth and get you on the road to recovery as quickly as possible.

Will I Need to Return to Bloomfield Endodontics Following Treatment?
Thanks to modern technology, most endodontic procedures can be completed in one visit. Occasionally, a second treatment visit can be necessary. In certain situations, Dr. Ryan may recommend additional follow-up visits to ensure proper healing of your tooth.
Communication between oral health partners is a priority for our team. We will send a report of the root canal treatment completed to your dentist’s office. You will then return to your general dentist’s office for final restoration of your tooth. Timing of when to return will be recommended by Dr. Ryan but is usually no longer than six weeks following treatment. This is critical to the long-term success of the root canal and to the health of your tooth. If you have any questions regarding when to return to your dentist’s office, please contact us.
What Happens During a Root Canal?
A root canal is needed when tissue inside your tooth becomes inflamed or infected. This can happen as a result of significant decay, injury, chips, cracks, trauma, or simply from having extensive previous dental work done to the tooth (even if it was done years ago). During a root canal, we remove the inflamed or infected soft tissue (pulp), thoroughly clean the canals, then disinfect and seal it to prevent future infection. A temporary filling will be placed on top of your tooth which will be repaired with a permanent restoration by your regular general dentist.
