Endodontics
What Is Endodontics?
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry concerning the dental pulp and tissues surrounding the roots of a tooth. Endodontic treatment and procedures are typically known as “root canal treatment” and are designed to save the natural tooth when possible. Dr. Ryan is a board-certified endodontist (root canal specialist).
How Is An Endodontist Different From a General Dentist?
This is a question that Dr. Ryan is frequently asked. Dr. Ryan graduated from The University of Michigan’s School of Dentistry and is a dentist. For a brief time, Dr. Ryan was a general dentist and performed a variety of dental procedures—fillings, crowns, veneers, extractions, implants, braces, root canals, etc. General dentists are able to perform any dental procedure they feel competent doing. Dr. Ryan decided to specialize in root canals and completed an additional two years of training in endodontics. Since 2012, root canal-related treatments have been the only procedures that Dr. Ryan has performed. He is trained to treat both routine and very complex, endodontic cases. Nothing looks, feels, or functions like your natural tooth!
