Cracked Teeth
Cracked teeth may occur from trauma, clenching, grinding, or normal wear and tear. Some cracks are minimal and require no treatment at all. Other cracks can be more extensive and may require endodontic treatment, or even extraction. When suffering from a cracked tooth, you may experience a wide variety of symptoms, including:
- Pain or sensitivity in your tooth
- Pain or swelling in your gums
- Pain with chewing or biting
- Spontaneous pain in your jaw
- Pain in your ear or headache-type pain
- Throbbing or a “heartbeat” in your tooth or jaw
Occasionally, cracks can be asymptomatic and only identified by a dentist and further imaging. Cracks can occur in various places on the tooth. To aid in diagnosis, Dr. Ryan will most likely recommend a CBCT image. The location and severity of the crack determined by the image will provide Dr. Ryan with the necessary information to determine whether endodontic treatment is necessary or not.
