Apicoectomy (Endodontic Microsurgery)
Endodontic surgery (also known as apicoectomy or endodontic microsurgery) is a procedure designed to save the natural tooth when other endodontic treatment options have failed or are not possible. Sometimes a well-treated root canal can still have issues resulting in pain, infection, or other symptoms. An excellent option to save your tooth in this scenario is endodontic surgery.
During endodontic surgery, Dr. Ryan will remove a portion of the root and previous root canal filling, then seal the root with a highly biocompatible filling material. Sutures are placed which will be removed several days later. Post-operatively, it is normal to experience mild discomfort. Sometimes, mild swelling and bruising may occur. Dr. Ryan will prescribe medications to expedite healing and minimize any post-operative discomfort.
If Dr. Ryan determines that endodontic surgery is the best solution for your situation, he will thoroughly explain the process and make sure to answer all questions.
